A Stroll around the town of Varenna
The weather on Lake Como in Fall may have a slight chill in the air so wrap yourself up in a warm scarf, take a ferry and visit the authentic town of Varenna.
The ferry form Menaggio to Varenna runs every 30 minutes and the ride is only 10 minutes.
The ancient town of Varenna - Lake Como
Varenna is an enchanted village located on the eastern shore of Lake Como, Italy. Very well connected via ferry with Bellagio and Menaggio. In high season crowds of tourists flock to its splendid coastline and its small beaches but the suggestive and well maintained alleys and the simple fishermen's colored houses contribute to maintaining a more authentic atmosphere than the nearby towns. Autumn is the perfect time to explore and fully appreciate its essence.
In Varenna you will have two options to choose from: relax and stroll on the lakeshore or visit the enchanting gardens of Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi. On top of the hill overlooking the Lake stands the Castello di Vezio. You can go there just for the amazing views after a relatively easy walk along the panoramic trail from Varenna (about 40 minutes).

This time, we’ll go for the Villa Del Balbianello.
The photos that I post say it all. This Villa is a magnificent place and is good to visit every day of the year but Autumn gives a particular appeal. It has been the set of many movies including Casino Royale, The Phantom Menace and Stars Wars. It is also the perfect location of fairytale weddings and exclusive VIP events.
The grounds of the villa are spectacular, perfectly maintained, full of antique statues, exotic plants and centenary shrubs. The inside of the Villa is only accessible by guided tour. It is very fascinating as the Count who lived there -a very charming man, was an explorer and many of the items from his expeditions around the world are on show.
To reach the Villa from Lenno (Lido di Lenno) you can do the 10 minutes walk through the forest or take the little boat that brings you there in a 5 minute ride. A good idea is to take the water taxi there and walk on the way back (downhill) to Lenno.
